Ryzen Z1 Extreme is the king
Z1 Extreme is meaningfully faster than the Z1. Plays Cyberpunk 2077 at 30fps medium settings, runs Helldivers 2 at 40fps. Best handheld for AAA gaming. ASUS ROG build quality, vapor chamber cooling keeps it manageable.

Best Windows handheld
Compared to Steam Deck — Steam Deck is more polished software-wise, but ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is meaningfully more powerful. Better for graphics-intensive games. The 120Hz screen is buttery for 2D games. ASUS Armory Crate makes settings easy.

Have a desktop PC but wanted portable PC gaming. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme delivers — plays my Steam library, GOG library, Game Pass, even my Epic Games library. One handheld, all platforms. Worth every dollar.

Battery is the weak point — 1.5 to 3 hours depending on game. Performance otherwise is excellent. Z1 Extreme handles AAA games that would crush Steam Deck. The 120Hz screen is the bonus when playing less demanding games.

Worth the premium over Steam Deck
Researched extensively. Z1 Extreme is the right pick for power users who want to play AAA games on the go. Steam Deck is great for indie and older games. ROG Ally is the choice for cutting-edge AAA portability.

4 months of using as my secondary PC. Plays everything in my Steam library at acceptable settings. The Z1 Extreme is meaningfully faster than the original Z1. Worth the upgrade if budget allows.
